I found out a couple of days ago that here in CA. the Parks Department can pull you over. Ole impatience here was following a suv that could not pull over for any reason. 20 in the corners (I take them at 40=no problem) but would speed up to 60 on the flats. Followed for 15 miles-two cars ahead of me passed on double yellow. So did I. As I was passing him I saw a park police truck on the side. As I was asking my self "can they?", I saw the pretty red & blue lights about 1/4 mile behind the slowpoke and I knew they were not for him. (He didn't pull over for the lights, either - the officer had to pass him...on a double yellow solid...) So I found a wide spot and pulled over, rolled down the window and assumed the position of a driver waiting-one hand on the steering wheel other on the window. Both in very plain sight. Wife is sitting with both hands in lap, no sudden moves.
Officer comes up along side close to the car ( I was observing to see if he was using good procedure-he was). He was grinning. Sir, do you know why I pulled you over? Oh, Yeah, Officer. It's called stupidity. He also bent down to look and smell. Remember the nose and eyes can not tresspass. Did I mention that this is Mendocino county? As he ran the driver license my wife asked me to roll down the passnager window. She wondered what he was doing outside the truck on the radio. That is when we noticed his partner. We could see him in the mirror-barely. Good position. Didn't even notice him.
When the officer came back he said that since I was so cooperative all I was going to get was a verbal. What was I going to do, deny the fact I was an idiot? My wife told him -good tatics, which brought a grin. All he said was to wait till he turned off the lights to leave. WHEW!
Parks Dept-go figure![]()

Very interesting story. I will have to keep your idea of clamming stupidity for the next time I meet up with an officer on the side of the road.

In Indiana the Department of Natural Resources have the same powers as a State Trooper. Plus they have powers regarding hunting and such. They usually don't bother with traffic tickets but will hammer 4 wheelers getting stoopid on the road.
