Merlin is correct, RTM as a company must market to survive, it's not greed. However, I'm starting not to mind so much if I miss the powerblock.

Well just got done watching their Cuda project car. That thing turned out great. Love the paint, love the stance, love the drivetrain. I think I was a little hard on them before, they do great work. Their personalties are fine they are alot of fun to watch. Yes they are not Lou or Stacey but if they tryed to be like them we would see right thru them anyways. Their cool. As far as TRUCKS goes, that project Super Dually is about the coolest shit I have seen in awile on TRUCKS. That is something I have been collecting parts for awile now. My project is an old truck on a new frame and running gear as well and I'm happy to see some one else thinks thats cool too.

I agree on the marketing thing; RTM exists for the same reason as any other company: to make money.
That being said, one more Chevy build and I'm gonna puke. I realize that Chevy lovers are the predominant car guys--why I stopped reading Hot Rod and Car Craft years ago--but you've gotta diversify. Even HR and CC realized that years ago.
I enjoyed the Olds and Ford builds on Horsepower, even though I'm a Mopar guy. It sure beat another Mustang or SBC.
The shows seem to center themselves around one subject.
News flash, Extreme 4x4: no one rock-crawls around here; they all build mud-drag/mud-bog trucks or daily-driver trail rigs. We can't afford all-aluminum CJ8 bodies. We get our axles out of boneyards, freshen them, and install as-is. A disc-brake open-knuckle 60 front is a thousand-dollar part around here, and no one is ever going to build a CORR truck.
Musclecar: Don't tell me about how you had to put a few thousand bucks into the UFC Cuda because the front-end geometry was so lousy. The original setup was not only stronger than what you installed, the geometry was spectacular not only for the day but for decades after. Car magazines went nuts over the SLA front suspension of the '93 GM F-cars; Chrysler had it in 1960 on the A-body and '62 with the B. Don't believe me? Check out Richard Ehrenberg's "Green Brick" and how well it did in the One Lap of America against factory- and professionally-entered cars like RUF 911s, BMWs, Corvettes and Vipers. Mark Stielow's silver '69 Camaro, with a MPFI NASCAR SB2 and full aftermarket suspension got spanked by a former NJ Bell foreman's car with rear drums and a carburetor. While I'm bashing, could Tommy Bosher be any more wooden? His passion for a script reminds me of McCauley Caulkin: just read the lines, and to hell with any vocal inflection or enthusiasm. If you've seen "The Good Son" you're familiar with which I'm talking. I'm sure he's a hell of a guy, and a damned-good mechanic but his TV personality fails to exist.
TRUCKS!: Nice Tetz. Just kidding... it seems like of late, these guys get the fact that most of us have jobs, families, and mortgages. I like the Ford/Cummins project, and got a lot of useful info from Second Chance Silverado. As much as I liked Stacey David as the host, projects like Copperhead were just not in the scale of a guy making $15/hour and supporting a wife and a couple of kids. I'm not a truck person, but it seems a lot of what they've got going applies to more than just pickups.
Horsepower: I used to avoid that show entirely, but now I check it out since they seem to have diversified a bit. Of course, I'm always disappointed when they go back to a 4.6L/5.0L 'Stang or anything with a Band-Aid--er, Bowtie on the grille. I really enjoyed the two-stage 460 Ford build, as well as the 455 Olds build with the Mondello segment. However, I have no use for TV coverage of car shows (will someone please kneecap Barry Maguire?) or 1/8th-mile drag racing even though I realize there are a lot more 660' strips than there are 1320s. Concentrate on projects, and not ones that involve putting a $5000 supercharger on a brand-new Mustang.
I appreciate the "Budget Builds" segments on all the shows, but they need to quit recycling the same segments for new shows. How many times do I need to be told how to build an engine dolly or how to rattle-can resto my exterior trim? There are tons of easy, inexpensive things one can do to a car but the Powerblock seems so narrow-minded they can't figure that out.
I really enjoyed watching Lou fabricate stuff on Musclecar, but realized quickly his fab skills were well beyond mine. Still, I incorporated a lot of that into my LeBaron, even if the welds aren't nearly as pretty. Heh. And I mean no offense when I say this: at first, Lou was a little over the top personality-wise for me. I understand why. Once he got comfortable and settled into just being Lou I really enjoyed his presence and looked forward to the show. At first I watched in spite of Lou; by the time he left I was like, "HEY!! Where the hell is Lou?!" and was genuinely disappointed to see it wasn't just a sabbatical but that he was never coming back.
My biggest problem with RTM is this: in the depths of rerun season, why can't you air stuff with former hosts? Did Lou kick your puppy? Did Stacey pee on your shoes? Did Chuck run a Garden Weasel over your prize rosebush? C'mon, RTM... give a nod to those who got you where you were!
