Hello, I have a 1967 400 that is always over heating! I have tried everything, new 7 blade fan, fan clutch, thermostat, water pump and plates… I have a comp 274 cam and I’m running 670 heads with a th400 with 2000 stall. Can anyone help? Thanks

Do the heads have steam holes drilled in them?

I've owned several pontiacs over the years and there are several things that caused overheating, one of the biggest was the plate behind the water pump you need to check the clearance between the impeller and the plate.
Without the gasket between them they should be as close as possible without rubbing then you add the gasket the gap should be about right, if the gap is to big its about like washing machine it will move water but not very well. You didn't say how hot or if its boiling over. You probably already know this but a stall converter will add heat the higher the stall the more heat is added. If your really into Pontiacs a couple of mags to check out are Pontiac high performance the April 2009 issue has one about putting a short fill in the water jacket to stabilize the bottom of the cylinders and improved cooling. The other mag is Pontiac Enthusiast.
I hope this helps as I'm new to these forum so please bear with me and good luck.

Earlier I gave you some info to go with that here is a couple of sites to check out HTTP://wallaceracing.com/water-pump-mods.php And this one I think is even better HTTP://pontiworld.com.au/usgmsp/product_info_php?products_id=5685
Or you can do a search of pontiac 400 water pump to plate clearance! At least this gives you something you can actually see.

My 65 LeMans runs around 200 to 210 with a 180 thermostat. Have a mechanical fan on it and an auxiliary push fan on a toggle for it. I read that running hot is in the nature of the poncho. I put purple ice in it and it rarely creeps over 200 anymore.
